Jake's Bikes supports the Bristol Bike Project

Jake's Bikes has recently agreed to support a bicycle recycling project associated with Bristol Refugee Rights Drop-in Centre in Easton. Jake's Bikes sponsors the Bristol Bike Project, which gives free bikes to asylum seekers, through the donation of used bicycles and the provision of parts and accessories at cost price.

Asylum seekers in the UK are not entitled to benefits payments until their claim for asylum has been approved, a process which can take many months. In the meantime they are given only food tokens which have to be spent at certain supermarkets, meaning that many have no means of paying for public transport or to spend on buying a bicycle. A free bicycle is therefore a vital lifeline, especially for asylum seekers who do not live in or near central Bristol, and enables access to services such as hospitals and English lessons.
